Figma is where most interface design happens now. Hiring well means being clear about what leaves the file at the end.
Figma is a design tool, not a website. A Figma project produces designs and prototypes — someone still has to build them. The most common misunderstanding on these projects is assuming the build is included.
What you should agree up front
- Which screens, at which breakpoints. "The website" is not a scope.
- Whether a prototype is included, and how interactive it needs to be.
- Whether the build is included, or whether you are buying designs only.
- Who owns the file and whether you get edit access or a copy.
Getting a usable handover
A good Figma handover is not just pretty screens. It should include the type scale, spacing values, colours as named styles, and components that a developer can read measurements from.
Ask whether the file uses proper styles and components or whether everything is drawn by hand. The difference decides whether the next person can work with it or has to guess. See what the agreement should cover.

01Does a Figma design include the website?
Not unless it says so. Designs and build are separate pieces of work and often separate people. Confirm in writing which you are buying.
02Do I get the Figma file?
You should. Agree that the file, or a full copy of it, transfers to you on final payment. Without that you own pictures of a design rather than the design.
03Can a developer build directly from Figma?
Yes, if the file is properly constructed with styles, components and stated breakpoints. A file of loose rectangles is much harder and more expensive to build from.
